We visited Constanța around the 15 August National holiday which is the Day of the Assumption of Mary, or St Mary’s Day. St Mary being the patron saint of the Navy, the holiday corresponds with the Day of the Romanian Naval Forces, or Navy Day (Ziua Marinei Române).

But what I really wanted to see in Constanța was its famous casino. It has been abandonned for years although it is considered the symbol of the city. The Romanian government has announced recently that it will be restaured but who knows how long it will take to give it back its Art Nouveau glory.

The reminder of our time, we walked around and did a small dip in the Black Sea. The only museum opened in our area on the 15th of August (holiday) was the Folk Art Museum (Muzeul de Artă Populară) which was filled with icons and traditional costumes of many parts of the country.
