Historic region of Romania situated in the South West between the Danube and south of the Carpathian Mountains (like Muntenia) but west of the Olt River. This region usually include these modern Romanian administrative counties: Gorj, Mehedinți, Vâlcea, Dolj, Olt.
The Danube is probably the European river who is crossing the most countries but it is in Romania that it ends it's journey. Here's where it lingers between Serbia and Romania.
Târgu Jiu is better known these days as the city where the local modern and sculptor Constantin Brâncuși has left his most famous ensemble of work.
